Voting for the crucial Haryana Assembly election 2024 is taking place today, October 5. The election features several key candidates, including Congress leader and renowned Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, as well as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and current Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, both vying for victory in the electoral contest.
This election is a pivotal event for the state, with major political parties competing to secure control of the 90-seat assembly.
More than two crore eligible voters are expected to participate in the election across Haryana. To facilitate the voting process, the Election Commission has established 20,629 polling stations throughout the state. The vote counting will take place on October 8, coinciding with the results of the Jammu and Kashmir elections.
A total of 1,031 candidates, including 101 women, are contesting in the Haryana Assembly elections. Notable candidates include Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini (BJP) from Ladwa, Congress’s Vinesh Phogat from Julana, and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda (Congress) from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. Other prominent figures in the race are INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala from Ellenabad, JJP’s Dushyant Chautala from Uchana Kalan, and BJP leaders Anil Vij (Ambala Cantt) and OP Dhankar (Badli).
Independent candidates such as Savitri Jindal, India’s richest woman and chairperson emeritus of the OP Jindal Group (Hisar seat), Ranjit Chautala (Rania), and Chitra Sarwara (Ambala Cantt) are also vying for seats in this crucial election.
