In a major breakthrough, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed rape and murder charges against Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Ghosh is currently being held in judicial custody in connection with a separate corruption case.
Additionally, the CBI has taken into custody Abhijit Mondal, the officer in charge of Tala Police Station, for his suspected role in the crime.
The CBI has successfully obtained a court order to take Sandip Ghosh, the former hospital principal, into custody for further questioning. The court has directed the jail authorities to hand over Ghosh to the CBI. This development comes as part of the agency’s ongoing investigation, which has already led to the arrest of three individuals in connection with the case.
Arrests and Charges
CBI officers interrogated Abhijit Mondal for several hours at their CGO Complex office on Saturday, but he was unable to provide convincing responses. Consequently, he was arrested in the evening. Mondal and Sandip Ghosh are both facing charges of tampering with evidence and other related offenses. Additionally, Mondal is accused of intentionally delaying the filing of the First Information Report (FIR).
On August 9, the partially clothed body of a postgraduate female trainee was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital. The hospital falls within the jurisdiction of Tala Police Station, which was led by Abhijit Mondal at the time of the incident.
Case Background
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had previously taken Sandip Ghosh into custody on September 2 for alleged financial mismanagement at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. In a new development, the court has ordered jail authorities to transfer Ghosh to CBI custody for further questioning as part of the ongoing probe.
Abhijit Mondal, who has been inconsistent in his statements, has finally been taken into custody by the CBI. Despite being questioned eight times previously, he provided varying accounts of the events.
The CBI officer confirmed that Mondal will be presented in court tomorrow. As per standard procedure, he underwent a medical examination at a hospital following his arrest.
This latest development represents a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the tragic events at RG Kar Hospital. The fact that senior officials, including Ghosh and Mondal, are implicated in the case highlights its severity and suggests a potentially widespread cover-up or misconduct.
